Charles Delvaux

Luxury is not Sold

It is Earned

“Luxury is not created by Price, Luxury is created by Time, Craftsmanship, consistency and Trust”.

Delvaux was founded in 1829 by Charles Delvaux in Brussels. Many people assume he wanted to become a fashion icon, but he wanted to create the finest leather travel goods.

Delvaux Philosophy

His philosophy can be summarised in Three words

CRAFT before FAME

Unlike many Brands, Delvaux never tried to become the Loudest voice in the room.

This is often described as quiet luxury, where quality speaks louder than LOGOS.

In early 19th century Europe was going through industrialisation which meant more wealthy and affluent travelling.

Brussels was a prosperous trading city. Booming with skilled craftsman.

Brussels became the hub for all the craftsman as the wealthy people travelled a lot for trade, demand for durable ,elegant and finest products were high.

Delvaux anticipated the travel revolution brought by the expansion of Belgium railway station.

He opened a small workshop and store front in Brussels to sell innovative lugguge designed for train travel.

His focus was on high quality materials and practical luxury. He laid foundation for the oldest leather goods house in the world.

Women started travelling independently in trains and they needed accesible bags for personal belongings.

In 1908, Charles Delvaux was the first to file patent to handbags.

Royal Connection

In 1883 King Leopold Ⅱ granted Delvaux the tittle of Purveyor to court.

Queen Mathilde of Belguim and former Queen Paola are frequently seen carrying Delvaux bags.

Le Sauverain collection was specifically created to celebrate the Belgian Royal Family.
