Ages ago every Brahmans family daily consumed lauki for its health benefits, which was a must then. But now our kids after hearing lauki run around or give excuses.
But if you try it in this manner, believe me this is going to be a super curry for any day. Cooking lauki is so simple and easy as it cooks very quickly. Here you have to soak chana dal for half an hour.

Can be made with just basic masala from your pantry. Feel free to add your variations as well.

Lauki chana dal recipe
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup chana dal
- 2 onions chopped
- 1 tomato chopped
- 3 green chilli
- 2 tej patta
- 2 tablespoon oil
- 1 teaspoon kasuri methi
- 1/4 inch ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon amchur powder
- 5 to 6 garlic
- 1/4 teaspoon haldi powder
- 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon mustard seed
- 1 tomato
- Some coriander leaves
- 1/2 teaspoon jeera
- 1 cup water
- 1.5 teaspoon salt
Method
- Soak chana dal for half an hour
- Grind ginger, garlic and green chilli into paste Keep aside
- Take pressure cooker pour oil add in mustard and jeera seeds let them crackle, then add in tej patta
- Now add in onions and saute till done, add the grinded paste and cook till raw aroma is gone
- Add in kasuri methi, tomatoes Cook till mushy
- Add in the given spices mix this all well
- Now add in chopped lauki along with chana dal. Mix together well
- Pour water with salt and close the lid
- Cook till 2 whistles
- Garnish with coriander leaves
