Methi Matar Malai – Creamy Fenugreek and Green Peas Curry


Methi Matar Malai is a classic NorthIndian dish that beautifully balances the slight bitterness of methi ( fenugreek leaves) with the sweetness of the green peas and the richness of cream.

This mildly spiced curry is comforting aromatic and perfect for wholesome homemade meal. It pairs wonderfully with rotis, naan or jeera rice. Great dish for special occasions.

Methi Matar Malai

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh methi leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 cup green peas(matar)
  • 2 onions, finely chopped
  • 5 -6 garlic cloves
  • 2 green chillies
  • 8 -10 cashews
  • 1/2 cup fresh cream
  • 2 tbsp oil or butter
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 3 tsp coriander seeds
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 star anise
  • 2 green cardamom
  • 1 masala cardamom
  • 1 mace
  • 4 blackpepper corn
  • 3 cloves
  • Salt as per taste
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Fresh coriander leaves for garnish
  • 2 cups water or as per consistency

Method

  • First dry roast the khada masala given like cumin,coriander seeds, bay leaf, star anise, mace, green cardamom, masala cardamom, cloves, black pepper corn. let it cool and then grind into fine powder. Keep aside
  • Heat oil in a pan add in onion, garlic ginger fry till golden brown in colour then add in green chillies and cashews, saute this till done
  • Heat oil in the wok pour oil then add in chopped methi saute for few minutes, later add in the green peas.
  • Now pour the onion masala paste with some water.
  • Add the grinded masala and cook for 5 minutes.
  • Add salt as per taste and pour fresh cream.
  • Now cook for another 2 minutes by adding sugar.
  • Delicious Methi Matar Malai is ready to enjoy.
