Jowar cake recipe/ Sorghum cake/ eggless millet cake


Jowar cake on my post was a hugely demanded recipe from my sis as she had loved the cake which I had made back home. So I thought why not share this with everyone on my website. This cake is super easy to make I tried baking it just the way an regular is made. No issues were involved while baking this cake. This is gluten free if you are looking for it.

Sorghum flour is highly recommended this millet prevents from cancer, helps reduce weight loss, prevents heart related issues. It is also high in antioxidant. This year is when India is celebrating millet year, so why not bring back all our ancestral recipes and cooking ways in our life.

As you have already read the benefits of jowar so why don’t you try this quick and simple recipe here. You can pour ganache on the cake to make it chocolatey. This cake comes out a bit dry not like the ones we make with refined flour which are moist.

Jowar Millet Cake

Ingredients

  • 200 grams jowar/ Sorghum flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 50 grams cocoa powder
  • 170 grams powdered sugar
  • 125 grams milk powder
  • 125 grams milk
  • 125 grams margarine
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Method

  • In a mixing bowl add jowar flour, cocoa powder, baking soda n baking powder
  • Mix the dry ingredient well
  • Now in another bowl add milk, milk powder, margarine, sugar and whisk this. Add vanilla essence Mix again
  • Preheat the oven on 160 degrees
  • Meanwhile take a seven inch cake tin spread butter paper
  • After the oven is preheated add lemon juice in the cake batter whisk it then pour it into the cake tin
  • Bake for 40 minutes on 160 degrees
  • This cake does crack a bit but that’s ok.
